Distance Tutoring Services

Emergency Virtual Education Services

Programming designed to support students’ individual needs and goals while sheltering in place

This spring, we are offering individualized programming for students and their families looking to supplement, or even supplant, their current homeschool. Our emergency virtual services include:

Either a single tutor (generally better for lower age ranges), or a specialized package of tutors (better for advanced scholars/older students) that have experience tutoring online and can motivate and guide your child through this challenging time. While the degree of motivation versus academic guidance varies greatly from student to student, we act as both coaches and instructors, guiding students through academic material, but also working with them to organize their time, their materials, and their lives generally to better address their academics.  If it is a high-level instructor that you seek to guide your child through this time, look no further.

We offer very flexible scheduling to assist with the ever-evolving realities of lives spent indoors with family and online with the world.  Days, evenings and weekends are all possible. Tutoring hours can be purchased in package rates in advance for the week of service.

Level I:

All inclusive package that includes 1 hour per day of tutoring and coaching, with expert online tutor, and any liaison and prep work services, 6 days a week

Level II:

All inclusive package that includes 2 hours per day of tutoring and coaching with expert online tutor (60 minutes, 2x per day, morning and afternoon/evening), and any liaison and prep work services, 6 days per week.

Level III:

All inclusive package that includes 3 hours per day of tutoring and coaching with expert online tutor (90 minutes, 2x per day, morning and afternoon/evening), and any liaison and prep work services, 6 days per week.

We can provide designed courses and original material, or simple course assistance for those in need of supplemental guidance. It’s been a difficult time for all, and our hearts goes out to all of us stranded around the country lacking in educational resources. Let’s get through this together.

Ask about our special needs tutors who work with children with attentional, executive functioning, and other neurodevelopmentally-based learning challenges.

We also have a healthy offering of college preparation services, particularly test prep and college essay writing.

High School Tutoring Services

Entering a rigorous high school environment can be an intimidating task for a teenager having to navigate many social, extra-curricular, and academic challenges that were not part of their lives previously.  This experience tends to be jarring and disorientating and often needs a supportive guide to negotiate these challenges. While many schools have complimentary support services such as counselors, learning specialists, and tutors, many of these services are overbooked and spread too thin to truly support these students.  The quality of the can also be mediocre or limited in actually helping the child to cope, adjust, and thrive.

We have a staff of experienced educators with impressive academic backgrounds who can provide comprehensive support to your new high school student in a variety of areas with one primary and focused goal: to help you thrive in the academic, extra-curricular and social forums of high school.

Often the cover story of simple “academic tutoring” can facilitate conversation around the other areas of life that are just as key to success, difficult to broach in the complication of a parental relationship.  An academic coach/tutor offers a unique opportunity to support your child in new circumstances and can even provide a view into elements of their lives that can be otherwise obscured to a parent.

Services are highly customizable and can range greatly in extent, but here are the potential areas of focus:

  • Straight Academics: Your student can benefit greatly under the tutelage of an expert in any field.
  • Study Skills: Preparing effectively for quizzes and tests outside of class time.
  • Executive Function: Setting up and checking with a student on their planning and self-management, with classes and extracurricular activities.
  • Developing Relationships: effectively beginning and pursuing relationships with teachers.
  • Social Challenges: non-invasive coaching through complex social issues and their interface with academics and extracurriculars.
  • Mental Health: Negotiating mental health and its role in maintaining a healthy balance for success.
  • Life Management: Guidance on course selection, extra-curricular commitments, and balancing the demands of family life.

The meetings can be conducted online through user-friendly software, recommended two to three times per week in frequency, offering excellent flexibility in scheduling and availability.

Given the pressing need for such a resource for many teenagers entering unfamiliar circumstances, this transitional educational specialist offers a tremendous opportunity for the kids using RNG services.  A supportive, caring, and well-educated adult squarely in their corner, supporting them through all facets of their new school life can make all the difference in their success in a demanding environment.

College Transition Services

According to a report put out by the ACT, a college testing agency, the national average in the United States for college freshman retention rate is 65.7%.  That means that roughly one third of college freshmen in American colleges will not make it to the second year there. There are a variety of explanations for this startling number, but for most they lack the resources needed to make the difficult jump into higher education.  While most colleges have services designed to support their young students, such as academic support centers, counselors, residential monitors and a host of academic specialists, many of them are overbooked and under-motivated to take personal interest in the success of individual students.  The staff are also frequently drawn from the school’s own student body or recent graduates, lacking the experience to provide the know-how needed to guide them effectively. Moreover, the systems can often be abstract or difficult to use, resulting in many students simply giving up on them.

We have a staff of experienced educators with impressive academic backgrounds who can provide comprehensive support to young college students in a variety of areas, with one primary and focused goal: to help a new student thrive in the academic, extra-curricular and social forums of higher education.

  • Straight Academics: Students can benefit greatly under the tutelage of an expert in any field.
  • Study Skills: Preparing effectively for quizzes and tests outside of class time.
  • Executive Function: Setting up and checking with a student on their planning and self-management, with classes and extracurricular activities.
  • Developing Relationships: effectively beginning and pursuing relationships with professors.

If the student believes they have all extra-curricular management of their life covered on their own, the sessions can take a largely academic quality, focusing strictly on course material.

Ultimately, the goal for these teens and young adults is to create autonomy and self-actualization, but throwing a young girl or boy into the deep end at the Y who has not yet ventured into such open water is rarely a good way to teach the freestyle.  Having this type of individual and devoted service in taking off the metaphorical training wheels can make a huge difference. With so much care in finding the right place for your teen to succeed, it only makes sense to follow that up with the resources to allow for their transitional success.
