Rebecca Grappo (M.Ed, C.E.P.), is the founder of RNG International Educational Consultants LLC™. As a Certified Educational Planner, she has guided families around the world with educational planning for their children for over 20 years. By talking about the end goals for a student’s education, she helps to plan the strategy to enable the student to meet those goals. Well-known in the field of international education and global mobility, Rebecca is also an expert in child and adolescent development and parenting, and a published writer and frequent presenter on various issues related to education, transitions, and resiliency for audiences around the world.
Her expertise and experience cover all facets of education and students with a huge range of abilities and learning styles, including those who are gifted and talented, have learning differences, or are considered Twice Exceptional. Many of her students are also international students who dream of being educated in the United States. Rebecca has also visited hundreds of colleges, boarding schools, and therapeutic schools and programs in order to better serve the wide variety of students in her practice. Her many years of experience teaching in international schools, and her work with a multitude of students with varied needs has made her a true expert in the field of educational consulting.
Before becoming an independent educational consultant and Certified Educational Planner, Rebecca served as Education and Youth Officer for the U.S. Department of State from 2002 to 2006 where she earned a Superior Honor Award and a Franklin Award. There, her role was to be the advocate and guide for Foreign Service families as they navigated their way through various assignments around the world. Building on those experiences in international education, she founded RNG International Educational Consultants, LLC in 2006.
She is a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC), the International Association of College Admissions Counselors (IACAC), and the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP). She has also served on the board of directors of IECA and on the boards of the American Association of the Foreign Service Worldwide (AAFSW), the Foreign Service Youth Foundation (FSYF), and Families in Global Transition (FIGT).
Due to her expertise working with expat students and international students, Rebecca was also recruited to design and teach the first-ever course in “American College Consulting for the International Student”, offered online by the University of California – Irvine.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Studies and a B.A. in German from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She earned her teacher’s certification and Masters of Education (M.Ed) from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and her Certificate in College Counseling from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension.
Married to a retired career diplomat in the American Foreign Service, she herself has lived the complexities faced when relocating a family to a new country and a new culture, and has also raised her own three children between the U.S. and overseas. In addition to her native United States, she has lived in Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Portugal, Jordan, Oman (twice), the United Arab Emirates, and Jerusalem. She speaks Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.
